Nick Carisio and AJ Carfora named MVPs
Behind a smothering defense, solid goaltending and a high scoring offense the 2009 CT Seminoles defended their crown successfully. The Seminoles defeated the Florida Possums Jacksonville 16-1 to win the coveted Gait cup. After finishing pool play at 4-1 the Seminoles headed into the playoffs looking to bring back the cup to Connecticut. The first round of the playoffs was against another Florida Possum team and advanced to the quarterfinals. The next opponent was Black bear who had been undefeated up to that point. In a close contest the Seminoles defeated them after a second half offensive barrage. In the Semi Finals the opposition was the lone team that defeated them in pool play, Team Charlotte. The CT team jumped out to a quick 5-1 advantage until Charlotte stormed back to tie the score at 6-6. After calling a much needed time out, they never looked back and went on the win 11-7. The Championship game was a spirited contest as the Seminoles jumped out to an 8-0 half time margin. Closing out the tournament was just a matter of playing a solid second half of lacrosse which they did. After the victory it was announced that the Offensive MVP of the 2009 tournament was Nick Carisio from Cheshire HS and the Defensive MVP for the tournament was AJ Carfora from Branford HS.
By winning the 2009 Gait cup the CT Seminoles have now qualified for the NDP national tournament in Tampa Florida in January.
